A Deeper Look at Your Body Composition
Understanding your body means looking beyond the number on the scale. Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) is a noninvasive assessment that estimates body composition by measuring how a very small, safe electrical current travels through the body.
Because different tissues conduct electricity differently, BIA can help estimate several aspects of body composition, including:
- Body Fat Percentage: The proportion of your body weight estimated to be fat mass.
- Lean Body Mass: An estimate of the body’s non-fat tissues, including muscle, organs, and other tissues.
- Total Body Water: An estimate of the body’s water content.
Why Assess Body Composition?
Body composition provides a more detailed perspective on your physical health than body weight alone. Two individuals can weigh the same amount yet have very different proportions of fat, muscle, and water.
BIA can help establish a baseline, monitor changes over time, and inform individualized wellness strategies related to nutrition, physical activity, and healthy aging.
Your Results, Within the Bigger Picture
At my wellness center, I believe that meaningful health assessment considers the whole person. BIA results are most useful when interpreted alongside your health history, lifestyle, nutritional habits, activity level, and individual wellness goals.
Your measurements are a starting point for understanding your body—not a definition of your health.
